Preparing for Okta MFA

This article is only applicable to a select population of users (synced from Active Directory to Entra and Okta groups) who utilize Okta MFA rather than Entra ID MFA. All other users should review the applicable Entra ID MFA articles.

  1. On a separate device from your mobile device, open a browser and navigate to: myapps.uwosh.edu/account-settings/security

  2. Login with your UW-Oshkosh NetID.

  3. After logging in, you’ll be prompted to setup your security methods or be presented the “Security methods” page. To continue, click Set up on the method you wish to configure.

  4. You’ll be presented with a page that says “Set up Okta Verify” and displays a QR code to scan with Okta Verify.

Setup Okta Verify (Mobile Device)

  1. On a mobile device, install the Okta verify app from the appropriate app store.

  2. Open the Okta Verify app and tap Get Started, then Next and finally Add Account on the “Ways to verify” screen.

  3. Tap Organization on the “Choose Account Type” screen.

  4. Tap Skip on the “Add Account from Another Device” screen.

  5. Tap Scan QR Code on the “Do You Have Your QR Code” screen. You may need to allow camera access, depending on the device. Then, you’ll scan the QR code with your device.

  6. Tap Allow on the “Allow Push Notifications” screen.

  7. You may be prompted to enable biometric confirmation. We recommend tapping Enable on this screen.

  8. Your Okta Verify setup is now complete.

Security Key

  1. You’ll be presented with a page that says “Set up security key or biometric authenticator.” To continue, click Set up and a system dialog will appear asking where you want to save your passkey. Select Security key and follow the displayed instructions.

  2. Your Security Key setup is now complete.

If you are receiving multiple MFA prompts (e.g. Microsoft Authenticator, Okta Verify, etc) when you login using Okta Verify, please contact the IT Service Desk for assistance unenrolling in Microsoft Authenticator.
