Enrolling in Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication

Enrolling in Microsoft MFA using the Microsoft Authenticator App: 

When logging in to your University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Microsoft 365 account you will see the following prompt to enroll in Microsoft MFA:

Open

1. Click Next.

2. From the Add a method dropdown select Authenticator App.

   Open

   

3. Click Add.

4. Install the Microsoft Authenticator App on your smart phone or tablet

   1. Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.azure.authenticator&hl=en_US&gl=US

   2. iOS/iPadOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-authenticator/id983156458

5. On your computer, click Next.

6. Click Next again. You should see a QR code on the computer screen.

7. On your smart phone or tablet, open the Authenticator app.

   1. Click Accept then Continue.

   2. Select Scan a QR Code.

   3. Allow access to your camera if prompted.

   4. Use your smart phone or tablet to scan the QR code from the prompt on your web browser.

   5. Once completed, you should see your UW Oshkosh email address, netid@uwosh.edu, listed in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smart phone or tablet.

8. In your web browser on the computer click Next. You will be prompted to run a test to ensure MFA is working.

   1. On your screen you will see a number displayed in the prompt.

   2. On your smart phone or tablet you will receive a push notification.

   3. When you open the push notification, you will see a prompt with a text box and number pad to match the number on screen.

   4. Enter the number from the sign-in prompt on screen, and tap Yes to approve the sign in.

9. Click Next on the computer screen.

10. After the test is successful, you may be prompted to provide additional security verification for a backup method (phone number). IT encourages adding your mobile device phone number to act as a backup if you are unable to access or use the mobile app for any reason. Alternatively, it can be skipped by selecting Done.

Enrolling in Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication using SMS texting:

When logging in to your University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Microsoft 365 account you will see the following prompt to enroll in Microsoft MFA: 

1. Click Next and be prompted to provide Additional security verification.

2. In the drop down menu select Authentication phone as well as the send me a code by text message radial button to authenticate via text message.

3. Select Next and to view the following screen where you can input the the verification code.

4. Select Verify.
