Google Drive Storage Limits - Students

Each student account receives 15 GB of free storage with Google Drive. You can access Google Drive by navigating to https://drive.google.com.

What counts towards your 15 GB storage limit?

  • Files that you upload to Google Drive

  • Files that you own and/or create in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms

How can I check my Google Drive Storage usage?

How will I know when I am approaching the storage limit?

  • Google will automatically alert a user at the top of the Google Drive window.

  • When your accounts storage is at 80% capacity, you will start to receive a yellow Storage Low banner.

     

  • When your accounts storage is between 90% - 100% capacity, the banner will change to a red Storage banner.

What happens when my Google Drive is at 100% capacity?

  • You will no longer be able to upload files to Google Drive

  • You will no lonnger be able to create Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms

  • Collaborators when opening a file owned by that account, they will receive a notification banner warning the user that the owner is over storage.
